What is book crossing?

This is the World Library. This is a smart social networking site. This is a celebration of literature and a place where books gain new life. BookCrossing is the act of giving a book a unique identity, so when the book is passed from reader to reader, it can be tracked and therefore connect its readers. There are currently 1,559,475 BookCrossers and 11,233,602 books circulating in 132 countries. Our community is changing the world, one book at a time touches life.

Label. share. follow. Inject new life into the books, instead of letting your old collection dust up-pass them on to another reader. Our online archive and tracking system allows members to connect with other readers, journals and reviews literature and trade, and follow their books as their lives change through "reading and publishing." Users can tag and track their personal books by tagging them with BCID (BookCrossing Identity Numbers). Each BCID is unique to each book-once registered on our website, the book can be tracked and recorded forever. BookCrossing is free to join and free to play. So don't "shelf" your book-read and publish!

BookCrossers love their books and love to read them. They are often the most generous, innovative, environmentally friendly, kind, whimsical, fun, and educated people on the planet.
